Important Update About Your Out of Province/Country Travel Coverage

If your group has out of province/out of country travel coverage provided by SSQ (Canassistance), you need to be aware of the changes in coverage due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation. This is a rapidly changing situation and it is up to the Member to remain informed about their coverage and it’s limitations.  To stay informed, please refer often to the following SSQ FAQ website:

https://ssq.ca/en/coronavirus

SSQ has recently posted new guidance for all travelers advising them to make arrangements to return home as soon as possible in order for you to remain covered under the travel coverage benefit. Failure to take the action described on their website may result in loss of coverage and claims not being paid.  Further details are provided on the FAQ site.

We also recommend you keep informed by the Government of Canada who are regularly updating their travel advisories including directing Canadians to avoid non-essential travel due to the coronavirus. The Canadian Government's travel advisory website (https://travel.gc.ca/travelling/advisories) should also be consulted regularly.

If you MUST travel out of province or outside of Canada, please contact SSQ's travel assistance service (1-800-465-2928) to determine if you will have coverage.

Union Benefits’ Response to the COVID-19 Virus Crisis

The health and welfare of the Union Benefits staff and customers is of paramount importance. Therefore, effective Monday, March 16th, Union Benefits will no longer accept walk-in Members for claims payment and counter-service. Notices will be placed outside alerting Members accordingly and the doors used by Members for Claims and our upstairs main office will be locked from visitors.

Members can elect to leave their paper claims in the outside claims box at 151 Frobisher Drive which is to be checked each morning and mid-day. Of course, Members are encouraged to use the mobile app, online claims facility, eDental, or Canada Post for prompt claims processing and payment.

We will keep everyone informed on our website as the situation changes.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation!
